Have you taken 'TIME'?

Memorial Day, May 28, 2007

Greetings to you all in the Name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
My, my!! Here it is Memorial Day, 2007, and Summer is on its way! How fast the time flies! This year is almost half gone—one just wonders, sometimes, ‘where has the time gone’? There is one thing for sure, the time that has passed will never return this way again, and that brings me to what I want to say to everyone today.

We need to live our lives to the fullest…..all my life, I’ve heard people say ‘You only live once’, or you ‘only get one go-round in this world’….things like that. All that is true, that is for sure.

Sometimes, I just stop to think about “time”, and how much faster it seems to fly by as we get older. We DO have such a short time HERE on this earth. Then, I think about how Jesus said that “I come to give you life, and that more abundantly” (John 10:10). Then, I go even farther back into the recesses of my mind and memory and I allow myself for a short time ---- only for the sake of reminding myself of where I was and where I am now, and to remember WHO it was that brought through the bad things, and into a life of abundance. I am reminded, at those times, that it was Jesus Who made the difference.

You see, there is a Scripture in Luke about where Jesus Himself said, “No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God”. While that is true, and I KNOW it is true, I believe that God gave us a memory so that we can get a glimpse from time to time of how lost we were before we knew Jesus, and just how different our lives our now that we DO know Him. To look back, longing for the things of the past when we were out in the world and ‘of the world’ are the things that Jesus was speaking against.

I like to liken our life this way----this life we live in our earthly bodies is only for a tiny bit (short, real short) time. But, our lives DO go on—our spiritual lives, our souls, live on. It is only our body that decays. The soul and spirit DO live on. We see in all the cemeteries the dates people were born, and the dates in which they die. Sometimes, one’s life is marked, as we see on TV, when one dies, a born date followed by a hyphen, and then the date they died. (i.e. 1907 – 1987) I see the first date of the time when that spirit and soul was united with a fleshly body, and the latter date is when the soul and spirit departed from the earthly body. You see, it is the time in between these two dates which ALWAYS and ULTIMATELY will make the difference in how and where that person will spend all eternity. That small dash is all that our lives make up in all of eternity. That is not a very large portion, but it means ALL insofar as our eternal life.

When we live in the world and walk in the flesh, doing things ‘of’ the world, we have some pleasures, and we have some fun, much of which is short-lived, at best. But, when we get to know Jesus and accept Him into our lives, and we walk with Him on a continual, steady basis, we also have pleasures, and we have fun, but we have so much MORE . . .we have the promise of ‘eternal life’, which is so much more.

Have you ever thought about how long forever is, or how long ‘eternity’ is? If like most of us, you have. Pastor Fred likens it this way . . . .He says to think about all the sand on EVERY beach in the world, and think about all the grains of sand that it takes to make up those beaches. He said that if a dove would come down and carry back just one grain of sand every 1,000 years, until he got all the grains of sand, eternity would just be beginning.

Now, when you look at it this way, it makes you realize just how long that is. . . .maybe . . . I am not sure, that our minds can even fathom it.

I know there are a lot of you out there who like to spend your summers swimming, picnicking, vacationing, playing sports, camping, boating . . .you name it, and it is out there for all of us to do, it seems, in the pretty weather. But, my Bible tells me that anything that we place before God becomes an idol, and one of the Ten Commandments tells us “Thou shalt have no other Gods before me”. When we look at that Commandment, and check to see what all we put before God, it sheds a whole new light on how we live.

Sure, we can have these things . . .it is not wrong to enjoy our lives, but we MUST put God FIRST in ALL things. Be sure to not neglect God . . Be sure to attend Church on Sundays, and fellowship with other believing Christians. Don’t forget to take time to study your Bible, and to talk to God . . .take time to pray and tell God what it is that you are seeking, and be sure to thank Him for all that He already has done and IS doing in your life. This is your communication with Him. He longs for that, just as we, as parents, want our children to talk to us and spend time with us, and ask for the things that they desire.

I thank God today for ALL that He has done for me…….As I reflect, it seems the same things come back to my memory, but there are also other things that He has done for me that I am sure that never comes to my mind. He has ‘set me free’…..that can be in so many areas, and He has provided for me, even when I didn’t realize that He was the one in control. He has protected me in times when I was in places where I shouldn’t have been, or in situations where I could have gotten hurt or killed, if it were not for His Hand of Grace and Protection. He has made me what I am, and for ALL this I am thankful, but sometimes, I forget to tell Him.

Have you taken ‘TIME’ today to tell HIM just how important HE is in your life? Have you taken ‘TIME’ to thank HIM for ALL that HE is? Mostly, let me ask you . . . . . .HAVE YOU TAKEN TIME TO ALLOW HIM INTO YOUR HEART?

If not, please do so today . . . . we never know when that ‘dash’ is going to be followed with another date!

God bless each and every one of you today . . .please let us hear from you. We welcome your comments.
