On Generational Curses
A Generational Curse is a judgment passed on to individuals because of continued sin in a family. This judgment is a bondage the person lives under until the sin is repented of, renounced, and the curse is broken.
The Word clearly tells us that a person (and actually a family) can be cursed and, that, for several generations. Read Deut. Ch. 28 for more on blessings and curses.
When you totally submit yourself to God, you actually open yourself up to His blessings. But, if you don't, and you stay out in the world away from God, then you not only open yourself up for various curses, but a lot of times, a person will even commit more sins that actually cause more curses to be placed upon himsellf/herself and future generations. A curse can carry on for several generations - it actually gives Satan reign over your children and grandchildren without them even knowing it, or knowing what caused it.
The one thing we need to be aware of and to remember is that we are blessed for obeying the Word of God, and we are cursed for disobeying the Word of God.
Curses start when you, or one of your ancestors have committed certain sins that are contrary to the Word of God. They always, always, start with sin and they will continue until the sin is repented of and forsaken. This is one reason that a curse can continue for generation to generation - it has not been forsaken. (Forsake means to renounce completely - Renounce means to totally give up, refuse, or resign.) The curses sometimes are still there after we've become Christians because demonic spirits try to keep these sins going, or to at least keep the fact there is a generational curse from being revealed and then you don't realize you need to break it.
Curses always diminish one's quality of life. They can produce shame, sickness, failure and even physical death. The generational curses can be broken - however, we have to humble ourselves and admit there's a problem, and really want to change it. Once we do, we find restoration and a new-found freedom. If we refuse to humble ourselves, we may become self-righteous and even rebel against God, and then we just slide deeper and deeper into bondage and darkness.
No generational curse just happens -- There has to be a cause - someone, somewhere, sometime, committed a sin or sins against God and that opened up a "legal door" or reason for the curse. In Proverbs 26:2, "Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight."
Now, you might ask "Weren't we set free from this when we were saved"? Yes, we were set free of sin and death, but as we begin to study, God reveals in His Word how to break the generational curses. You see, the Word is light -- There is no place for darkness in light -- The light will always overtake the darkness if we allow it to. In order to break the curse, we have to repent, renounce, forsaake the sin -- whatever it is -- and we'll be set free. We will have more teachings in the near future to elaborate more on this subject.
There are 3 ways that we can reap blessings and curses through our ancestors:
(1) Through our genes (DNA) -- We inherit physical and chemical traits that are passed through the genes.
(2) Through the examples our parents have set as role models.
(3) Through the law of "sowing and reaping".
When we refuse to admit our sin and not repent of it, we don't allow Jesus to take it, and we deny Him access to it -- and thereby future generations reap what we've sown. (Or, it might be that we are reaping what they have sown).
We need to remember that once the curse is broken, we must continue in God to keep it broken. Also, we need to remember that God wants us to be free and He is always willing to break a curse. Like everything else, we have to do our part for Him to do His part.
We need to each of us realize that what we do affects our children and our grandchildren.
Even the world, for the most part, recognizes curses, but its people just don't know what causes them. We like to quote 1 Corinthians 2:14, which reads: "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them. because they are spiritually discerned." Please keep in mind that God wants us to be free and He is always willing to break a curse. Like everything else, we have to do our part for Him to do His part.
Jesus said that He "came to give us life, and that more abundantly" (paraphrased) John 10:10, and in that same verse of Scripture, He also said that "the thief cometh not but to steal, kill, and destroy"(also parphrased). Now, the thief, as most of us know, is the devil, and that is exactly what he is doing through the generational curses--he is stealing people's peace, their marriages, killing their joy, and yes, sometimes, even killing them through suicides, and destroying every aspect of their lives through their emotions, their physical bodies, through their finances, and in every area of their lives.
The world sometimes refers to what we are calling curses as "learned behavior" and sometimes, they are referred to as "inherited" or "congenital"--even though sometimes it cannot be proven biologically. The medical profession keeps giving people medication that at best, most times, will only mask over it, or subdue it, or put it "in remission". Rarely, does anyone ever recover totally, and there is a reason for this. It was placed there as a curse through the spiritual realm, and it has to be dealt with in the spiritual realm. Flesh cannot combat the spiritual forces within. Paul, in Ephesians 6:12, says "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (We will be posting some messages regarding Spiritual Warfare to help some of you who don't know, to understand how the spiritual realm operates)
We must remember that we are spirits, ourselves, in a human body or(earthsuit), and the curses that have been placed upon our families down through the years, generation after generation, have been placed there by the spiritual realm. (We will explain this further in a future message)
Folks, there is a spiritual realm--it is very real, it is very strong, and it is very cunning. God is Spirit, Satan is spirit, and we are spirits ourselves. What happens in the natural realm, which we see manifested in our lives, has already happened in the spiritual realm first--always!! There is a battle raging in the heavenlies between the angels of God and the evil spirits(also known as demons) for our very souls.
It is how we react to those things that are manifested against us and in us that will determine who will be victorious in the ongoing battles for our eternal lives.
The evil forces of the spiritual realm are very, very strong, and they are many. Many of them have several different attributes, and what one cannot do, another can. They often work in conjunction with one another to accomplish that which they have set out to do. That is to destroy all of mankind, and take as many as possible to hell with them.
It is very possible to be a Christian and still be affected by curses that are operating in our lives. This is hard for some people to understand because they have been taught that whenever they are "saved" that they have been totally set free. Let me say right here and now, that those sins which we have asked forgiveness for, when we get saved, have been totally washed away by the Blood of Jesus. However, many of us know not of those curses that have been placed upon us by the sins of our ancestors. These are referred to as "sins of iniquity". These are the ones that are passed down through our lineage, through the family lines, which most times we know not of, and therefore, have not asked for forgiveness from God for what they did. We must forgive them for doing the sin that placed the curse on us, and even though many of our ancestors have already passed on, we must ask God to forgive them, and ask Him to remove the curse from our lives.
Once the curse is removed, it sets us free of the yoke of bondage that it had on our lives, and it also removes it from the lives of our children and grandchildren. However, until someone steps up and says, "enough", and breaks the curse and reverses it, it will continue on and on and on. In Hosea 4:6, the prophet Hosea said, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowedge." I believe that this is exactly what Hosea was talking about in that verse of Scripture. Many people today are living under a curse and don't even know it, and daily, the enemy (Satan) is crushing them under his feet, and destroying everything that they set their hands to.
Many cannot seem to get out from under the curse of poverty--no matter how hard they work, and how hard they try, it seems that every extra dime they get their hands on, the enemy steals one way or another. They are totally devoured by the enemy and don't even realize it because they have not been taught about these things.
The Lord has to reveal to His people about all these things such as the curses. When He reveals it to you through His Holy Spirit, that is known as a rhema word--meaning revealed, or revelation knowledge. There is also a word logos, which is translated as the written word. There is quite a difference between the two. When we simply read something, it does not necessarily become alive in our hearts, but when the Holy Spirit reveals it to us, it becomes alive and you just know that you know that you know.
That is how the Lord is revealing more of His Word to us in these last days, and we feel that we must teach as many as we possibly can. God's people are being destroyed for "lack of knowledge". God will use those who listen to His voice, and the more we give out of these revelations, to others, the more He will give us.
Now, we know that we all suffer consequences of our own actions, but sometimes it's because of actions of our ancestors. It is very possible to be a child of God and still have a curse operating in your life. One can understand how that can happen by the aforementioned.
There are families who suffer generation after generation and are continually defeated physically, emotionally, and economically. Why? Because very often curses grow worse from generation to generation. The demonic spirit gets a stronger foothold with each generation. For instance, sometimes poverty breeds immorality, shame, carelessness, and sometimes even crime.
The curse will continue on and on untils someone in Jesus'name stops it.
Let us say right here, that blessings can also be passed down--"They that love Me, I will bless them to one thousand generations." (Deuteronomy 7:9)
We will post more messages on this powerful teaching in the near future, and will explain how these curses can be removed not only from you, but from your future generations.
We will post more about these curses in the next day or so. Be sure to be watching for this powerful teaching.
